Asset Managers

Oxford Place works with a small number of leading Asset Management firms to improve the performance of Executive Teams and senior Portfolio Managers.

Our proprietary curriculum for working with long-only investors is designed to support Portfolio Managers in mastering their mindset, attitude and beliefs in order to consistently deliver high levels of performance in ever-changing market environments.

The core areas in which we support long-only PMs:

  • Building up confidence patterns; developing an approach in relation to placing successful investments in challenging market conditions (including an analysis of how “flow states” impact trading profitability).
  • Observing where Portfolio Managers might sell too quickly, hold on to positions for too long or where they may limit profit by not taking large enough risks.
  • Observing where investors may limit profit by letting ideas take precedence over discipline and execution and/or observing where they may limit profitability if they allow discipline to take precedence over ideas.
  • Identifying “Habitual Frames of Reference”, that is, unconscious patterns of behaviour and interpretation of markets, which detrimentally affect an investor’s performance – and turning these habits into empowering new patterns, approaches and attitudes which positively improve trading performance.
  • Building up risk appetite and analysis tendencies towards being either too risk-averse or too cavalier about risk. Our bespoke, tailor-made approach is designed to support investors achieving their highest potential and re-defining an edge in rotational markets that are increasingly characterised by liquidity constraints that impede the ability of some PMs to apply their traditional edge to investing.

In addition to working with individual Portfolio Managers, we also have a strong track record working with senior management teams in Asset Management firms.

Our work in this area is focused on supporting the CEO and his senior team in executing the firm’s core strategy successfully. Our process comprises a series of one-on-one discussions with each of the senior leadership team, leading to a strategic Team Offsite. The aim of this process is to identify and address the ‘performance gaps’ which represent operational barriers to maximising the profitability for the business.
